But the real excitement begins here: from the observation station, you will launch into the exhilarating Sky Trek, a one-of-a-kind experience that lets you glide through 7 zip lines, with heights ranging from 164 to 525 feet. Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve Entrance
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is renowned worldwide for its conservation efforts and scientific research, making it one of Costa Rica's most important natural sanctuaries. Established in 1972, this reserve covers an area of 8,650 acres and contains an astonishing 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity. The unique geography, topography, and climate of Monteverde have created the perfect conditions for this remarkable variety of life.

As you explore the forest, you will encounter four distinct "Ecological Life Zones," which are home to hundreds of species, including mammals, birds, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and arachnids. The reserve also boasts a rich diversity of plant life, including mosses, epiphytes, lianas, and the iconic trees of the cloud forest.

Café Monteverde Coffee Tour

Discover the heart and soul of Costa Rican coffee culture. Café Monteverde is an association of 20 families deeply rooted in coffee, agriculture, conservation, and education. For five generations, these families have cultivated, processed, and roasted top-quality coffee, striving to live in harmony with the surrounding Monteverde Cloud Forest.

The rich history of coffee in Monteverde began in the early 1930s when families from Costa Rica's central valley brought their coffee culture to the region. As descendants of these pioneers, Café Monteverde treasures this legacy. Their production covers the entire coffee process, from seed germination to harvesting ripe cherries, to sun-drying the beans, and finally, roasting.

Texas Coffee Traders has been a key partner in their journey. Since their first visit to Monteverde in 1990, they have helped local farmers enhance their coffee quality through roasting, tasting, and training. They have also promoted Fair Trade practices, ensuring that green beans are purchased at above-market prices and investing in infrastructure improvements.

Café Monteverde's main farm is in Cañitas, near the Monteverde Cloud Forest, where they roast the coffee and ensure quality in their cupping laboratory. In addition to coffee, the farm includes organic vegetable gardens, goats, pigs, and hens, with half of the land preserved under forest cover, balancing production with nature conservation.

During this tour, you will experience Costa Rica's native flora and fauna while learning and/or practicing basic kayaking techniques. Along the lake, you may observe bird species such as the "Flycatcher," "Kingfisher," "Great Blue Heron," and "Anhinga," and you might even hear the howler monkeys.
